Appendix B

This appendix serves as a guide on how to create a personal job-fit survey for your application process. Stated by the United States Office of Personnel Management, "job-fit measures that give applicants the opportunity to self-select out are typically administered before all traditional assessments". This instrument is used to attract individuals that seek employment with companies that have similar values and characteristics to their own.

When a potential employee is applying for a job at your company, create a short and engaging survey as a part of the application process.

Some survey sites include: https://www.surveymonkey.com/, https://try.typeform.com, and https://www.google.com/forms/about/.

Make sure to include relevant questions such as name, age, years of experience, email address, zipcode, and any other information that you may find useful during your hiring process.

Format your questions in a measurable manner. An example of this type of format can be seen here:

  • "I prefer a work environment which doesn't demand constant adaptation" (1 = strongly disagree, 5 = strongly agree)

Another example of this format comes from Carrie Anne Rodgers during her research on Person-job fit and person-organization fit as components of job seeking (2000).

Clearly state your companies values, beliefs, and expectations on the main page of your website and very briefly on your survey.

After a potential employer completes this survey, examine the responses and comment on them during the interview process. This ensures that both you and the potential employer have clearly stated each other's values and expectations.

"Results suggest that in order for/organizations to : attract qualified candidates, they need to portray an organizational image that highlights such components of their values and goals. Whether it be through recruitment practices or the selection process itself, organizations need to find ways to make the job seeker aware of their attributes in order to attract "fitting" candidates"
